2024/2025 Vintage Hills Lego Robotics Club Registration
Dear Vintage Hills 2nd, 3rd and 4th Graders,
For all the Lego enthusiasts out there, the Vintage Hills PTA runs a multi-year Lego Robotics Club.
This year we’re running 3 year-long sections:
The sections progress from building simple models, to designing and programming lego robots, and are a great opportunity for Vintage Hills students.
This is a parent-run club organized through the Vintage Hills PTA. The clubs will meet every Wednesday:
- Club A will meet after school from 3pm to 4pm in Room 31. Please walk to the room to pick up your student. The students will work together in pairs to put together a model every week. Motorized LEGO sets are used and students will learn basic engineering concepts including use of gears.
- Club B will meet before school from 8:10am to 9:10 am in Room 31 (please walk your student to the room). Students learn how to control their models via simple drag and drop programming. Towards the end we also do some free-build without instructions.
- Club C will meet after school from 3pm to 4pm in Room 30 (please walk to the room to pick up your student). Students build more complicated robots and control them via Scratch, a graphical programming language.
The first meeting will be on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. This will be a year-long club, ending on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. See
detailed schedule.
Club C will be co-lead by 4th-grader parents Nitin Verma and
Igor Ginzburg. Igor is also the contact person for Lego Robotics overall. Please
contact him with any questions.
Club B will be co-lead by 3rd-grader parents Meera Arun and Sandeep Pattanaik.
Club A has one co-leader so far (3rd-grader parent Swetha Gunnala) and is still looking for a 2nd co-leader. Please contact
Igor Ginzburg if you’re considering co-leading Club A.
As this is a parent-run club, for each student in the club we need one parent/adult to commit to come to at least 4 club meetings to help us supervise the students throughout the year. The goal is to have at least one 1 club leader plus 2 parent volunteers there each week. The parent volunteers will need to have
Level 2 volunteer clearance before their first volunteer day. If you don’t already have Level 2 clearance, you will need to complete the
PUSD Volunteer Clearance process which includes “Live Scan fingerprinting” and TB clearance. Live Scan fingerprinting costs around $69. Financial assistance is available.
Sign up is done through this Future Fund page on a first come, first served basis.
The club has a $60 fee. The fees are used to invest in new kits as well as replacement parts and batteries for the kits.
Once your student is enrolled through this Future Fund page, please sign up for FOUR parent volunteer days via Signup Genius. You must sign up and attend your 4 volunteer days for your student to stay in the club.
On the evening after the last club meeting (Wednesday, May 14th, 2025) we will have an adult-only “Kit Cleanup Night”. Each student must have at least one parent/adult attend the Kit Cleanup Night, and stay until their student’s kit is restored to good-as-new condition with all parts in place.
When registering, make sure to use an email address that you check regularly. We will use the address for important announcements throughout the year, and to get early access to next year’s club sections.
